What Is the GST/HST Credit?

The GST/HST credit is a tax-free quarterly payment from the Canada Revenue Agency that helps individuals and families with low to modest incomes offset the GST or HST they pay. Bill C-19 (Royal Assent February 12, 2026) renamed it the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit and raised the amounts by 25% for five years, from July 2026 to April 2031. For the 2026–2027 benefit year, the maximum is $679 for a single person and $890 for a couple, plus $234 per child under 19. The benefit is reduced by 5% of adjusted family net income above $46,432.

How much is the GST/HST credit for 2026–2027?
